"We work for working mothers and busy people," said principal Stacia Mecray, doing just about anything "as long as it's legal and moral," said Mary Beth Murphy, who serves as Mecray's right hand.

They call themselves a "lifestyle management company," and what that means is they are ready to help out anyone strapped for time in any way they can.

Elan started out as Lily White, a housecleaning business for Mecray, but evolved to include more services when her clients started making additional requests, like property management and running errands, Mecray said.

When the requests were more than Mecray could handle herself, she called upon her longtime friend Murphy, who Mecray claims has "superpowers" because she is able to handle so many things at once.

Since starting Elan, which means "vigorous spirit or enthusiasm," according to Webster's dictionary, the two said they have had countless calls from people who need all kinds of help.

"We spent a day putting together children's toys," Murphy said, and continued listing requests to include waiting for the cable man, taking a car to get an oil change, and overnight shipping a raincoat to a client who left it at home.

The Elan team, which includes two other employees, recently helped a Middletown family move into their new home.

The movers delivered the boxes, and Elan unpacked everything and put it all away - "down to putting toothpaste and soap in the bathroom and polishing the dining room table" - before the couple arrived to see the house completely furnished and ready to live in.

"The woman said 'wow' when she walked in the door," Murphy said, adding, "That's just the reaction we wanted."

Murphy said she has a knack for planning parties for clients and will co-ordinate all the services of the caterer, linens, rentals, and music for them. A lover of all things gourmet, she loves to grocery shop for people and can be counted on to find the perfect vegetables and quality ingredients for her clients, Murphy added. One service that Mecray performed

recently was to serve as a matchmaker for two couples, new in town, who didn't know each other. "I saw there were common interests" between the two pairs, who were clients, Mecray said, so she introduced them to each other.

Mecray said her company is insured and bonded and that dedicated customer service is what Elan is noted for. "People know us and trust us," Mecray said, adding, "We won't sleep until the job is done," whatever job that might be.

Where Elan cannot perform every task asked of them, Mecray said, the company has very high standards when it comes to hiring contractors, caterers, and other service providers that they would recommend to their clients.

"We've developed a network of contacts," Murphy said, and all of them are of the type that are as attentive and professional as Elan. "Not the kind that never call back," noted Murphy.

Services are billed at $30 per hour, and there are monthly packages available. Elan Concierge can be reached at 741-7598, or visit the Web site at www.elanri. com.
