Domestic assault charged

+ Douglas C. Machado, 27, of Middletown was charged July 5 with domestic simple assault, refusing to relinquish a telephone, and for taking a cell phone and car keys from a woman with whom he was having a relationship. The assault occurred at a time-share the couple was renting on Bay View Drive, police said.

Machado was scheduled to appear July 5 in Newport District Court, police said.

+ Heather Waterman, 33, of 193 Seaside Drive was charged with domestic simple assault after she allegedly hit her estranged boyfriend in the face during a breakup.

Waterman is due in Newport District Court July 14, police said.

Drunk driving charged

+ Mark Sweeney Sr. of North Kingstown was charged July 1 with drunk driving with a blood alcohol count of .15 or greater after a traffic stop at East Ferry for going the wrong way.

Sweeney is due in Newport District Court, July 14, police said.

+ Henry W. Dutton, 40, of 750 North Main Rd. was charged July 2 with drunk driving and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test after a traffic stop for speeding on Route 138. Dutton is due in Newport District Court July 14, police said.

+ Kent M. Malkovich, 39, of 450 East Shore Rd. was charged July 3 with drunk driving and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test after being stopped on North Main Road for swerving across the center line.

Malkovich was arraigned July 3 in Newport District Court, police said.

+ Robert F. Strain, 47, of Narragansett was charged July 3 with drunk driving and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test after a traffic stop for speeding on North Main Road at the overpass.

Strain is scheduled to appear July 14 in Newport District Court, police said.

Underage drinking charged

Police pulled over a car July 5 at 3 a.m. after seeing the passengers drinking while the vehicle was in operation.

Charged with possession of alcohol by an underage person were Oliver W. Amerigian, 20, of 194 Narragansett Ave.; Kathleen Champagne, 18, of 5 Pleasant View Drive; Russell F. Hines, 20, of 222 Narragansett Ave., and a 17-year-old female.

The juvenile was also in possession of prescription drugs, police said.

They were to be arraigned July 5, police said.

Vandalism reported

+ A resident of Seaside Drive told police July 1 that some exterior walkway lights were uprooted.

+ A Mast Street resident reported July 2 that a 50-year-old red maple tree was damaged by someone using a sharp object.

Boat stolen

A resident of Seaside Drive told police July 5 that a dinghy was stolen from his property.
