Babe Ruth ball team a success in first year

Ali's Run, Jamestown's team in the Newport Babe Ruth league, which includes 13to 15-year-olds, ended its season on Tuesday, June 27, by playing valiantly against R & R Construction before succumbing 9-7.

The team had great success in its first year in Newport Babe Ruth after an absence of years. In addition to winning six games during the regular season, the team then won two games into the double-elimination playoffs defeating R & R Construction 1-0, and then, after suffering its first playoff loss, coming back to beat Horan Construction 9-0. Both of these victories were the result of stellar pitching performances by Will Deffley. He was equally backed up with great pitching performances by Nathaniel Vigneault. The team's success was fueled by its love of the game and its never-say-die attitude. During the entire season, the team constantly battled back in late innings to either win the game or put a scare into opponents.

Every player contributed to team success.

The infield combinations of Kaan Kurt, Ryan Southworth, Christian Tiexiera, Carl DeVellis, and Jake Garbelotti proved to be one of the best in the league. The outfield corps was solid with Tom Munro, Matt Baptista, also a relief pitcher, Harry Mielde, Ben Normand, Mike Schnack, Anthony Irwin, Nicholas Baccarri, Alessandro Baccari, and Mike Harpool. The catchers played extremely well with John Rafanelli, Josh Page, and Kevin Flanagan.

Managed by Jim Bryer, whose hard work and devotion spurred on the team, Ali's Run is a team that Jamestown can be proud of.
