A lively summer for art lovers
A lively summer for art loversAnnual art and craft shows

By Karen Krider By Karen Krider Don't miss the CIAA's popular annual shows! The Art Show opens July 19 with a public reception in the Community Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Juror David Barnes will present awards, and you can vote for your favorite work. The show will run through Sunday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Tania Biddle, show manager, has been busy readying this presentation of new work by CIAA member artists.

The Summer Craft Show will be held at the Community Center Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Show Manager Christina Moorehead has lined up a terrific group of talented craft artists, including many islanders.

New board seated

The association's annual meeting was held in May, with a fun art auction, great conversation, excellent appetizers . . . and a short business meeting that seated a new board: Kate Petrie, president; Karen Krider, vice president; Priscilla Foley, treasurer; Barbara Hutchison, secretary; Jocelyn Donahue, corresponding secretary; Allie Sabalis, president ex-officio; and Maryann England, Delia Klingbeil, Don Miller, Christina Moorehead, and Rene Stawicki, members-at-large. Outgoing Treasurer Gail Bolger was particularly thanked for her many years of conscientious work.

The board will have a special planning meeting in August. Our organization's mission is to promote and share the arts and crafts of Conanicut Island. We are exploring how to best serve the community and carry out our mission, with our limited resources. Your input and ideas are always welcome.

Scholarship recipients featured

As a result of fund-raising efforts, the CIAA was able to award scholarships this year to four talented students from Jamestown: Allison Bryer, Jacqueline Tanguay, Joshua Nolan, and Rainey Aberle. These young artists will be honored with a show featuring their work at the library, along with Alice Toll, Michael Spahr, and Georgia Wright, who are awardwinning students from the Lawn Avenue School, and Genevieve Dupre, Spencer Lis, Alicia Lane, and Samantha Andreozzi from North Kingstown High School. Please come to this exhibit opening on July 20 from 7 to 9 p.m., or stop by through Aug. 19 to appreciate their talent.
