Jazz on tap for Sunday concert
Summer Music in Jamestown continues at East Ferry's Memorial Square this Sunday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m., with a concert by the Lois Vaughn Jazz Quintet.
Afamiliar face on the Newport music scene, Vaughn has performed at venues in Jamestown as well, including two prior Summer Music appearances. This Sunday's performance is cosponsored by Conanicut Marine Services and the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department.
The band, which features Vaughn on piano, accompanied by bass, drums, trumpet, and trombone, will play everything from the jazz and swing classics of Brubeck, Ellington, and Kenton, to the ragtime of Scott Joplin and the blues. The audience will be treated to recognizable favorites such as "Take the A Train" and "Take Five," and lesser known tunes such as the Latin flavored "Ceora" by Lee Morgan.
The concert is from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and is free to the public. Attendees should bring blankets or beach chairs. In case of rain, the concert will be at the Community Centert.
