Jamestowners star in 'Oz'

See the Wizard of Oz performed by the Fantasy Works Youth Theater this weekend, July 14 and 15, at the Robert J. Shapiro Cultural Arts Center at Toll Gate High School, 575 Centerville Rd., Warwick.

Join the theater group as the classic tale of Dorothy, played by Jamestown resident Hannah Cordes, unfolds. Cordes, an eighth-grader at the Lawn Avenue School has been previously seen with the Jamestown Community Theatre, performing in "HONK!" and carrying the title role in "Alice in Wonderland."

Tiffany Wolfe, another Jamestown resident, stars in the role of Aunt Em. Wolfe, 13, is also a student at the Lawn school, and has appeared with the JCT in "HONK!" and the "Miracle Worker," where she played the role of Helen Keller.

And what trip to Oz would be complete without munchkins? Thanks to Jamestown residents Oksana and Natasha Shein, students at the Melrose school, Oz has two more munchkins wishing Dorothy well on her way down the Yellow Brick Road!

Liz Gotauco, a bachelor of fine arts graduate from the University of Rhode Island, and Jamestown native, is acting as Fantasy Works head costumer for the summer. Liz also performed with the JCT and has been active in theater in Jamestown and throughout Rhode Island her whole life.

"The Wizard of Oz" will be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 14, and Saturday, July15, with a special matinee performance at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Tickets cost $12 in advance and $14 at the door.
