Island ambulances renamed

At their quarterly business meeting, members of the Jamestown Emergency Medical Services voted to change the designated names of their two ambulances from Jamestown Unit 10 and Jamestown Unit 11 to Jamestown EMS 1 and Jamestown EMS 2.

The Jamestown Emergency Medical Services is an all-volunteer organization providing emergency medical service to people in Jamestown. They respond to approximately 600 calls each year and provide both emergency and non-emergency care for the Jamestown community. They work with the Jamestown fire and police departments as part of an emergency medical team.

Rick Hodges, the Director of the Jamestown EMS, said, "The membership agreed that the new names are more descriptive, more accurate, and possibly more understandable to the general public."

The JEMS is also extending an invitation to motivated members of the community who wish to volunteer for this vital community service. Drivers and crew are especially needed. Training and uniforms are provided and the satisfaction that comes with helping friends and neighbors in a very special way is guaranteed. Interested adults can call 4237276 or write to the Jamestown Emergency Medical Services at P.O. Box 8, Jamestown, 02835.
