Jazz week scheduled at URI
What goes better with warm summer nights than the cool, lively sound of jazz?
The faculty and students of the University of Rhode Island's Jazz Program, under the direction of Joe Parillo, will offer five consecutive nights of jazz performances Monday, July 24, through Friday, July 28, in Wakefield and Kingston.
The "Jazz Every Night" festival is part of the URI Preparatory Program's 2006 Summer Intensive Jazz and Percussion Week. Admission to the four concerts Monday through Thursday evenings will be $5. Admission to Friday night's concert, which features students of the summer jazz camp, will be free.
The festival's first concert will feature the URI Big Band performing at the True Brew Cafe, 213 Robinson St., in Wakefield on Monday, July 24, from 7 to 10 p.m. For additional information about that night's performance, call 284-1850.
The concert on Tuesday, July 25, will feature performances by the URI Jazz Faculty Ensemble. The group will perform in the URI Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, 105 Upper College Rd., Kingston from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The ensemble includes members of URI's acclaimed jazz faculty.
Members of the URI Student Jazz Ensemble will perform on Wednesday, July 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall.
Thursday's performance, July 27, will be an open jazz jam session in the Concert Hall.
