New high school info sessions offered

There will be a series of information nights about the new East Bay Met High School in Newport on Wednesdays, Aug. 2, 9, and 16 at 6 p.m. at the Florence Gray Center, 1 York St., in Newport.

The Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center is a tuition-free public high school whose mission is to educate high school kids "one student at a

time." Rhode Island's seventh Met School - 6 are located in Providence - the East Bay Met will open its doors Aug. 30 at the Florence Gray Center, and is open to students residing throughout the East Bay area, including Jamestown.

Individual learning plans for all students include interest-based learning, family engagement, internships in the community, travel, small group sizes, and the opportunity to take college classes.

Newsweek magazine lists the Met among the top 100 high schools in America.
