Island businesses are the 'best'
Three island eateries were named among the Best of Rhode Island in the statewide survey conducted by Rhode Island Monthly for its August edition.
According to the magazine, the best tarts in the state can be bought at Slice of Heaven on Narragansett Avenue. The magazine described the miniature confections as "superlative pastries . . . mandatory for any dessert connoisseur," and credited the recipe to owner and chef Steve Liebhauser, who picked it up while an apprentice in Florence, Italy.
The best pizza and calzones in the state are from the Village Hearth bakery on Watson Avenue, which the magazine said "makes some of the best Italian-inspired baked goods in the state." Editors highly recommended the roasted pepper foccacia and the spinach, mushroom and mozzarella calzones.
In the readers' poll, the Bay Voyage Inn won again for the best Sunday brunch in the state.
