Paws for a Cause

This weekend the "Friends of the Jamestown Animal Shelter" will celebrate the start of their shelter construction project. Friday night, a flute recital will be held, led by Gina Seraichyk, accompanied by Karyn Kaufman on piano, and Jay Santo on guitar. The recital and reception will start at 7 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church. A $5 donation would be appreciated for this lovely evening. Gina has been working on the musical program for quite some time, so we know it will be beautiful.

On Saturday, Paws & Claws will host one of its famous yard sales from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. behind the store at 23 Narragansett Ave. Individual tables are available for a $15 donation. This year's prime items include a Victorian desk, Depression glass, office furniture, a fully-equipped 125-gal. aquarium, and a beautiful oak library table.

Sunday, the volunteers will convene at the shelter site on Southwest Avenue at 10 a.m. to plan the project and commence work on the building's roof.

Anyone interested in participating in any phase of the shelter project is welcome to attend, as teams will be formed and scheduled for work over the next 45 days. Exterior landscaping and fencing are also part of the project.

The Friends of the Shelter are in need of building and paint supplies, a picnic bench, bushes and landscaping supplies, Home Depot Gift Certificates, and most of all, individuals who love animals, to help us with this important project. We realize this project

has been on again, off again, on again, etc., and as a result some of our donors and volunteers have given up. We hope you will still support this project.

If you have yard-sale items or building supplies you would like to donate, please drop them off at Paws & Claws or at the shelter, or call Paws and Claws on their cell phone at 354-9200, for a free pickup.

We hope to have a fun and productive weekend to benefit all of Jamestown's homeless pets.
