Russell S. Clarke, 80

Russell S. Clarke, 80, of Howland Avenue died Saturday at Village House Nursing Home in Newport.

Born in Jamestown, he was a son of the late William A., Sr., and Ethel (Sowle) Clarke.

Mr. Clarke was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He was a self-employed plumber before retiring.

He was a former Little League coach and Boy Scout leader. Twenty-one years ago, Mr. Clarke founded the Conanicut Island Land Trust and was a member of the Conanicut Investment Partnership. He was a longtime volunteer and former captain of the Jamestown Fire Department, an all volunteer organization.

He leaves two sons, Dave Clarke of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Jeff Clarke of

Bowdon, Ga.; a daughter, Lori A. Patton of Newnan, Ga.; a brother, William A. Clarke of Fairfax, Va.; two sisters, Winifred Russell and Penelope Clarke, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; and six grandchildren.

A Burial Office will be held Thursday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Ave., in Jamestown. Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery, Jamestown.
