Theatre to produce 'Charlie Brown'

The Jamestown Community Theatre is planning a reprisal of "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown," for its fall season.

Announced this week by Artistic Director Mary Wright, the play was chosen for its universal appeal, compelling music, and thoughtful script. "We also wanted to pay tribute to a great man, Charles Schultz," Wright said.

While JCT staged "Charlie Brown" a number of years ago, "this is an updated version with a completely different script, although the storyline is basically the same," Wright was quick to point out.

There is another difference about this production. Wright will not be directing it. Taking a welldeserved sabbatical this season, Wright has turned the director's chair over to musical theater veteran Julibeth Andrews. "We have so many talented young people here in Jamestown," said Andrews. "I'm very excited to have this opportunity to work with them. It's a small cast, but each cast member will have a chance to shine," Andrews added. Also, Patty Vandal, JCT's music director for the past 15 years,

retired after last fall's production. The musical director for "Charlie Brown" will be Rebecca Brazil. A JCT veteran herself, Brazil has assisted Vandal with past productions.

With just seven singing parts, the play's cast is small and so is its chorus. While the cast will be made up primarily of young people, older kids who do not sing or are encouraged to consider learning the ropes of backstage work, lighting, and sound. "It's a great opportunity to learn the nuts and bolts of theater production," Wright said. "So often our casts have been so large that the young people don't have a chance to learn how to put the whole package together.
