Artists to create works for 'wet paint' event
Beginning this Saturday, Aug.19, local and regional artists will generate hundreds of new works for a live and silent auction during the Newport Art Museum's annual Wet Paint Weekend.
Artists are encouraged to submit any and all art forms, including painting, sculpture, design, and new media. The museum will host a cocktail reception and art preview followed by a silent auction beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. Silent bidding continues Sunday, Aug. 20, from noon until 4 p.m., when a live auction led by Mike Corcoran will take place on the grounds.
This Wet Paint Weekend will be held rain or shine, and is one of the Newport Art Museum's most important fund-raisers. Proceeds support exhibitions and educational programs throughout the year. The museum expects more than 300 works to be generated for auction.
The Newport Art Museum is located at 76 Bellevue Ave., across from Touro Park. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for students. There is no charge for museum members and children under 5. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 848-8200.
