Vets picnic scheduled

The U.S.S. Saratoga Museum Foundation has taken the lead in organizing a major statewide picnic to recognize the service and sacrifices of Rhode Island's former and current soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines. This picnic will take place at the Buttonwoods Youth Center in Warwick from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27. This center is a 70-acre private preserve on the banks of Narragansett Bay, offering recreational activities for all, including a swimming pool.

"So many of our veterans events are somber affairs," observed U.S.S. Saratoga Museum Foundation President Frank Lennon. "Memorial Day, Veterans Day, we're all at cemeteries remembering and honoring our dead. This time we want to celebrate the accomplishments of the living and those who support them. Let's make it a positive, upbeat, and fun day."
