Slavery topic of Peace Dale fall lecture series

The South Kingstown Public Library/Peace Dale will host a special Fall 2006 series of four programs on the subject of slavery in Rhode Island.

On Sunday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m., Richard A. Lobban will present: "Rhode Island Slavery: An Introduction and Overview."

On Sunday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m., Joanne Pope Melish will discuss: "The Worm in the Apple: Slavery, Race, and Amnesia in Early Rhode Island."

Keith W. Stokes will give a talk called "The African Slave Trade and its Legacy in Newport, Rhode Island" on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m.

Jamestown resident Elizabeth Delude-Dix will conclude the series on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. with "2 Films about Rhode Island Slavery."

These programs will be held at the Peace Dale Library, 1057 Kingstown Rd.
