Community farm stand opens this Saturday

On Saturday, Aug. 26, the Jamestown Community Farm farm stand will be open to the general public. The farm stand is located on Eldred Avenue opposite the soccer field.

Nature cooperating, the available produce will be tomatoes, squash, herbs, cucumbers, very hot peppers, flowers, and sunflowers, all picked fresh Saturday morning. The farm has been delivering vegetables to the Jamestown Senior Meal site, Pemberton Apartments, Bay View Apartments, the Martin Luther King Center in Newport, and a church meal site in Peacedale.

So far this year the farm is having what can be considered a fairly successful year, with a wealth of cucumbers and summer squash, a few peppers and eggplants, and some not so good beans. It appears the farm is going to have lots of good tomatoes once they begin to turn red.

The honey harvest has been slow because the bees have been slowed down by the early spring rains and a certain unspecified dissatisfaction with their queen bees. However, within the next two weeks the farm workers hope to begin harvesting.

Volunteers are always welcome and all proceeds from the farm stand are used to offset the costs of the farm.
