Audition for 'Charlie Brown' this weekend
In just a few days, the Jamestown Community Theatre will hold auditions for its fall musical, "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown."
Featuring the beloved Peanuts characters created by Charles M. Schulz, "Charlie Brown" is full of good humor, catchy music, and a thoughtful message that kids young and old will identify with and benefit from. And, while "Charlie Brown" has been staged by the JCT in the past, this season's production is a revival written by Clark Gesner and first staged in New York in 1999.
Auditions will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Community Center from 4 to 6 p.m. Anyone who will have had his or her eighth birthday by that date is invited to audition. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. The main cast is expected to be between 8 and 18 years old. The understudies are expected to be adults. There will also be a small chorus of young people age 8 to 18.
All prospective cast and crew members are required to attend a brief meeting at the start of the Aug. 27 audition. Any child through age 17, who is auditioning or is interested in working backstage, must have a parent or guardian present at the meeting. It will not be sufficient for a child to be escorted by another child's parent, regardless of a child's participation in a previous JCT production. Auditioners should also bring a pen and paper to the meeting.
To prepare for the auditions, prospective cast and chorus members must memorize a short monologue and a specific song, both of which are provided in an audition packet. The packets will be available in the display racks in the lobby of the Community Center until 4:30 p.m. tomorrow. Those who cannot get there by then, should call Joan McCauley, 560-0199, to arrange another time for pickup.
There is an established rehearsal schedule covering six weeks, as follows: Sept. 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26; Oct. 1, 2, 3, 10, 15, 16, 17; production week, Oct. 22, 23, 24, 26, all from 7 to 9 p.m. Performance dates will be Oct. 27, 28, 29 and Nov. 3 and 4. There is no allowance for missed rehearsals for this play. Therefore, prospective cast members and parents should carefully review the rehearsal and production schedule, noting any other commitments that may conflict with it.
Every parent of a child in the play will be required to assist the production crew in a variety of ways. Regardless of the size of a production, there are a number of jobs that must be accomplished.
Finally, all cast and crew members are required to be JCT members. Annual memberships cost $15 for individuals and $25 for families. Membership forms will be available at the audition meeting. Financial assistance is available.
