Barber retrospective at Newport Art Museum

Vintage Jillian: A Retrospective of Ceramic Sculpture by Jillian Barber opened at the Newport Art Museum on Sept. 2 and runs through Nov. 5.

An opening reception will be held at the museum, 76 Bellevue Ave., in Newport on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The show is a retrospective of the Jamestown-based ceramicist's work since the 1960s.

Barber said that a large selection of her masks as well as a collection of mythical animals will be on display.

"It's my life's work," Barber said about the show.

Visitors can meet and talk with Jillian Barber during Gallery Night for an informal gallery talk on Thursday, Sept, 14, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for students. There is no charge for museum members and children under 5.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Sundays, when it is open from noon to 4 p.m.
