Donate used instruments to student musicians
The Jamestown Education Foundation is looking for used musical instruments to enable all students in grades 5 through 8 the opportunity to play in the school band.
"We have excellent instruction and strong student interest," said Mary Keen, the JEF vice chairwoman, "But the $20 to $40 monthly rental fees are a barrier for some students," she added.
JEF's instrument drive was launched in the spring of 2006 with the generous donation of some 16 student violins by the family of Mary Keen. The violins will be available for students participating in the string ensemble at the Melrose and Lawn schools. For band instruction, the JEF is seeking all types of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments in good condition. The instruments will be professionally maintained and redistributed to student musicians each year.
To arrange a donation call, Keen at 423-1225, or drop the instrument at the Lawn school during school hours.
The JEF is a private, non-profit corporation dedicated to providing educational and cultural enrichment for Jamestown students. Donations are tax deductible.
