Comet seen in Cuba

Comet, the young osprey from the Great Creek nest that was fitted with a radio transmitter this summer, was tracked to Cuba this week.

After leaving Jamestown on Sept. 8, Comet visited New Jersey, Delaware, South Carolina, and Jacksonville, Fla. Before stopping in Cuba on Sept. 17. Conanicus, the osprey that was born in 2005, also spent last winter in Cuba.

The Conanicut Raptor Project is in need of funding to continue its monitoring of Conanicus and Comet to determine the migratory habits of local ospreys.

To check on the progress of the two ospreys, go to www.conanicutraptors. com.

To donate, send a check to the Jamestown Education Foundation, 77 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, RI 02835. Write Conanicut Island Raptor Project on the memo line.
