Concert of Mahler leider coming to URI

The 2006-2007 University Artist Series of major concerts at the University of Rhode Island begins this month with a concert of German "Lieder," short classical songs based on lyric poetry, for trained voice and piano.

URI faculty member and Opera Workshop Director Rene de la Garza, baritone, guest artists Gigi Mitchell-Velasco, mezzo-soprano, and Timothy Steele, pianist, will present Gustav Mahler's 13-piece song collection, Das Knaben Wunderhorn, sung in German, on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m.

The concert will be held in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall off Upper College Road on URI's Kingston campus. Admission is $8 for the general public, $2 for students, with seating on a firstcome basis. The box office opens 45 minutes before the concert.
