Shows & Announcements

Save Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for the annual Holiday Craft Show at the Melrose Avenue School. Shoppers are expected from far and wide. Contact Shirley Bell, show manager, at 423-0811 if you would like to exhibit.

Are you a CIAA member? We are building an e-mail list so that we can keep in better touch with you. Please e-mail katepetrie@ cox.net. If you would like to join the CIAA, please contact Jocelyn Donaghue, djdonaghue@yahoo. com, or call 423-3297. You don't need to be an artist or artisan.

One benefit of membership is that you can have your arts-related Web site linked to the CIAA's. Contact Cynthia Blair Antonelli at cbawebdesign@cox.net.

The CIAA needs digital photos (preferably jpegs) of your fine arts and crafts for our Web site and publicity. Send your photos to katepetrie@cox.net. Be sure to identify each image so that we can give proper credit.

The CIAA board wants to encourage a more vibrant and interactive arts community in Jamestown, and we're working to make achievable (and fun!) plans. Thanks to the people who have already provided suggestions. The island is gifted with an abundance of talented people.

Art in our schools A collaborative effort between the Jamestown schools, the Jamestown Education Foundation, and the Rhode Island Foundation offers art enrichment classes to Island students. An after-school art program at Lawn Avenue School is a key activity for 2006. Kate Petrie has been working to organize this eight-week series of Wednesday, 2:45 to 3:30 p.m., classes that will start Oct. 4. Kate needs several more artists to each offer one class. A stipend is available. Your creative approach will introduce students to a variety of artistic mediums and careers, and help spark imagination and creativity.

Kate is also interested in talking with people who would like to offer other in-school art activities. Please contact her soon: katepetrie@ cox.net.
