Bolles' retirement a loss to the town

The town of Jamestown suffered a huge loss last week. At the Sept. 25 meeting of the Town Council, the announcement of Matt Bolles's retirement was read.

Effective in six weeks, it will mark the end of an era of growth in program and participation overseen by the excellent leadership of the departing recreation director. His investment in the community through this position will never be duplicated. Throughout his years working for the town, Matt has demonstrated the highest degree of integrity, approaching the issues, conflicts, and needs of the community with a considered, balanced manner, without selfserving motivations.

Although I congratulate Matt on his retirement, and I can believe that part of his choice came from listening to the call of the creative part of himself, I cannot but be angry at the Town Council process that certainly accelerated his decision. I can only hope that the council has learned something from this experience.
