Plan your costume for the Jack O' Lantern Jog

Plans are underway for the 18th annual Jamestown Jack O' Lantern Jog 5K Road Race. This year's race is set for Sunday, Oct. 29.

The Jog starts downtown and winds its way through the streets of scenic Jamestown with the finish line in front of the Community Center.

In keeping with the Halloween theme, participants are encouraged to dress in their favorite costumes. Prizes will be awarded in categories such as Best Costume, Fastest Costumed Runner, Best Youth Costume (18 and younger), Hardest Costume to Run In, Best Duo, Best Jamestown-Themed Costume, and Best Group Costume (three or more).

Awards will also be given out to the top three men and women as well as the first male and female in each division. The divisions are broken into Pee Wee, 10 to 12; Junior, 13 to18; Open, 19 to 39; Master, 40 to 49; Senior, 50 to 59; Veteran, 60 to 69; and VIP, 70 and up. No running awards will be given to children under 10 years old. Each entrant will receive a free Jack O' Lantern Jog T-shirt.

This family-oriented event is open to walkers as well as runners. There will be no baby strollers or pets allowed in the race.

A free raffle will be held after the race for all participants. All raffle items have been donated by local businesses.

Registration and check in will begin at 11:30am at the Jamestown Community Center located on Conanicus Avenue. This year's entrance fee will be $15 in advance and $20 on race day Online registration is available at www.needtorace. com. All early registrations must be received by Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Proceeds from this year's Jack O'Lantern Jog will be used to make improvements to the Community Center. Entry forms are available at the Community Center and various locations around town.
