This year's USA Track and Field sanctioned 5K road race is set for Sunday, Oct. 29. It starts downtown and winds its way through the streets of Jamestown with the finish line in front of the Community Center. The race starts at 1 p.m.
In keeping with the Halloween theme, participants are encouraged to dress in their favorite costumes. Prizes will be awarded in categories such as Best Costume, Fastest Costumed Runner, Best Youth Costume (18 and younger), Hardest Costume to Run In, Best Duo, Best Jamestown Themed Costume, and Best Group Costume (three or more).
Awards will also be given out to the top three men and women as well as the first male and female in each division. The divisions are broken into age groups Peewee (10-12), Junior (13-18), Open (19- 39), Master (40-49), Senior (50- 59), Veteran (60 plus), and VIP (70 plus). No running awards will be given to children under 10 years old. Each Entrant will receive a free Jack O' Lantern Jog T-shirt.
This family-oriented event is open to walkers as well as runners. No baby strollers or pets will be allowed in the race.
A free raffle will be held after the race for all participants, with raffle items that have been donated by local businesses. This year's race is sponsored by World Trophies, Crystal Springs, the Jamestown Press, Runner's World magazine, and Spinnakers Cafe.
Registration and check in will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Jamestown Community Center located on Conanicus Avenue. The entry fee is $20 on the day of the race. Printable registration forms are available at www.jamestownri. net/rec/rec.html
Proceeds from this jog will be used to make improvements to the Community Center. Entry forms are available at the Community Center and various locations around Jamestown.
