Drunk driving charged

Steven J. Alviti, 18, of North Kingstown was charged Oct. 22 with drunk driving after an officer saw his car parked on Bow Street with smoke coming out of the engine.

Alviti is scheduled to appear Oct. 27 in Newport District Court, police said.

Bryan T. Dunford, 49, of North Kingstown was charged Oct. 20 with drunk driving and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test after the Newport Police Department put out a call about a car driving erratically over the Newport Bridge.

Dunford is scheduled to appear Oct. 27 in Newport District Court, police said.

Picked up on warrants

William B. Ruffner, 41, of 17 Narragansett Ave. and Luke D. Verrier, 26, of 66 B Pemberton Ave. were picked up Oct. 18 on district court warrants.

They were taken to Newport District Court later that day, police said.

Aaron Jones, 25, of Charlestown was arrested by Little Compton police and discovered to have a 2004 Jamestown outstanding warrant for a suspended license charge. Jones was arraigned and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Oct. 27, police said.

Larcenies reported

+ The owners of a Narragansett Avenue eatery reported Oct. 22 that $95 was taken from their cash register. It is believed that the door was unlocked, police said.

+ A Highland Drive resident reported Oct. 23 that items were taken from the unlocked house. Missing was about $30 in cash, a TV/VCR unit, and some jewelry, police said.

+ A resident of Top O the Mark Drive told police Oct. 18 that a glass jar full of cash, and two keys were taken from the house, police said.

+ A resident of Jamestown reported Oct. 18 that his inflatable boat was taken from a mooring at Ft. Getty, police said.

Vandalism reported

+ A Ledge Road resident told police Oct. 19 that his mailbox was damaged.

+ An employee at the Melrose school reported Oct. 23 that a window at the school was smashed.
