Islanders recognized at Women's Resource Center annual meeting
At their annual meeting, held Sept. 27, the Women's Resource Center handed out community service awards to individuals who promote the mission of the center.
Laura Clarke of Jamestown received a Community Education Award as an advocate for WRC's Youth Violence Prevention Program and for being a founding member of the Communities Overcoming Violence program.
The Women's Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties is one of the six member agencies of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence. They provide comprehensive services to families affected by domes- tic violence. Services provided include an emergency safe home, a 24-hour helpline, court advocacy, counseling, community outreach, support groups, children's programs, and prevention through public awareness and education.
Elected to board positions were Board President Denise Mansheim, Vice President Judy Clare, Treasurer Renate Marek, and Secretary Tina McIntyre, of Jamestown.
