Town to auction off old equipment
The motto for the town's equipment auction to be held Nov. 18, might very well be "Out with the old and in with the new."
Going up for sale is a variety of used equipment, including a large self-contained transfer trailer, the old fire rescue boat, a street sweeper, Fred Brown's ex-building inspection vehicle/ex-police car, the senior citizens' bus, and a variety of other pieces of surplus equipment.
Councilman William Kelly proposed the auction over a year ago, but felt it was worth the wait because town officials used some of the surplus equipment, like the old track machine at the transfer station, as trade-ins on the new equipment. Doing so saved the town thousands of dollars on the purchase of a new backhoe and pay loader.
The procedure being utilized by the town for this auction is something this community should be very familiar with. It will be a silent auction format. The equipment and other items being auctioned will be available for inspection Thursday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. until Saturday, Nov. 18, during normal business hours at the transfer station. Items will also be listed on the town Web site at www.jamestownri. net under Public Auction. Bid forms will be available at the Town Offices, 44 Southwest Ave., Jamestown. Bids will be accepted until 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, in a sealed envelope marked "Auction" at the Town Offices, 44 Southwest Ave., Jamestown. All bids received will be publicly opened and read shortly after the deadline of 11 a.m. at the Town Hall located at 245 Conanicus Ave.
