Volunteers needed to study wind energy

Five vacancies exist on the newly established Wind Energy Committee for a two-year term.

The Wind Energy Committee shall review and evaluate the use of wind turbines as an alternative renewable energy source local power generation. The committee will study the potential application of wind energy technology to meet municipal demands exclusively or to broadly serve the residential and commercial power needs on the island. The study will examine direct and indirect costs and benefits and aesthetic and neighborhood impacts. Following completion of this assessment, the Committee shall issue a report and recommendations to the Town Council.

With approval of the Town Council, the committee may seek federal and state grants or private funding to support the study and analysis of wind turbines on Jamestown.

Any resident who is a registered voter in Jamestown and is interested in serving should contact the Town clerk by submitting a letter of interest and background. Applications can be found on the internet at www.jamestownri.net or at the Jamestown Library, 26 North Road, and Town clerk's Office located at 245 Conanicus Avenue, mailing address: 93 Narragansett Ave. Persons who have submitted letters in the past are encouraged to do so again.
