Town Hall collecting for 'mitten basket'

With the expectation of a cold and long winter ahead of us, the staff at the Town Hall will start collecting mittens, scarves, hats, and gloves for the annual holiday Mitten Basket.

The community of Jamestown is welcome to start making donations to the Mitten Basket from now through Wednesday, Dec. 13. Donations can be made Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will benefit the Newport County Women's Resource Center. Donations must be brand new or handmade and unwrapped. Place them in the basket at Town Hall, 245 Conanicus Ave., at the golf course building. If there are any questions, call Kimberly at 423- 7200.

Last year's donations were extremely generous, and it is truly wonderful to see the community's warmth and kindness for those who are less fortunate during the busy holiday season.

Please stop by the Town Hall to add to the Mitten Basket and continue to show the island's generous support during the hectic holiday season.

A big thank you to everyone for making the past years' Mitten Baskets such a great success!

Kimberly Turcone,

deputy town clerk
