John J. Largess, 58
John J. Largess, 58, of East Greenwich died Nov. 6, 2006. He was the husband of Karen (Sosnowy) Largess.
He was the second of eight children of Clifton R. Largess Jr. and Mary (Curran) Largess. Born in Wakefield, he spent his formative years in Jamestown, which always remained a special place for him.
He grew up loving water sports. A graduate of Holy Cross College, he served as a U.S. Navy officer in Vietnam, and then worked in banking in Providence before becoming a stockbroker. He was an avid reader. For many years, he was part of the "JBA," a weekly pickup basketball game among friends, jokingly called the Jamestown Basketball Association, and took an annual Western snow skiing trip with one of his closest friends. In the last 10 years, he became an avid bicyclist, enjoying riding with others and proudly completing several "century," rides of 100 miles.
He is survived by two daughters, Noel Largess, a senior at Syracuse University, and Alexandra Largess, a freshman at Penn State University, whom he loved dearly.
John is survived by his parents,;his brothers, Clifton R. III, Mark, Matt, and Luke; and his sisters, Mary Lee and Cathy Woodward. He was predeceased by his brother Dan.
He also is survived by countless friends.
The funeral was held Saturday. Burial was private. A memorial Mass will be held for him on Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, 11 a.m. at St. Mark Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Largess Children College Fund, 4 Remy Place, East Greenwich, RI 02818 will be appreciated.
