Pas de Chat open for the holiday season
      A new shop, Pas de Chat, has pawed its way onto the retail scene at 16 Narragansett Avenue. Last week, Owners Dale Rocha and Jody Ziegler officially opened the doors to their store, which features, among other amenities, a mini spa offering "nice things for busy women" on site at the Cathryn Jamieson Salon.

Dr. Benedetto joins South County Hospital staff
      South County Hospital has announced the appointment of Bernard Benedetto, M.D., General Surgery, to the medical staff. He is joining Drs. Andrew Dowd and David Coppe in Shoreline Surgical Associates, and he will also be working closely with general surgeons Drs. Umberto Capuano and Elizabeth Conklin.

      The holiday season is a time to remember the blessings in our lives and a time to give back to the community however we can. The holidays can be a difficult time for many, but the good news is that there are many local churches and organizations where one can reach out to those in need, and perhaps make someone's holiday a little bit easier, a little more joyous.

Help osprey get new homes this holiday season
      Jamestowns native ospreys need a summer home, and the Conanicut Island Raptor Project needs help to ensure that returning ospreys will continue to nest on Conanicut Island. The CIRP is seeking suitable sites for three new osprey poles to serve as nesting platforms for migratory osprey. Private landowners and community organizations are invited to apply.

Horn enthusiasts invite all for a special Christmas concert
      Tubas of all sizes, baritones and euphoniums are only a few of a wide array of horns that will play on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the third annual Christmas Tubaphonia Concert in North Kingstown. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium on Fairway Drive in North Kingstown.

Parties file briefs in Swain appeal in civil case
      Pre-briefing statements have been completed by both parties in the state Supreme Court appeal by Jamestown businessman David Swain of a Superior Court civil judgment last February that found him responsible for the drowning death of his wife, Shelley Arden Tyre, while they were scuba diving in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, in 1999.

Spreading holiday beauty
      Members of the Quononoquott Garden Club decorated the town last week by filling sidewalk barrels with holiday greens and sprucing up the garden at the fire station Memorial Museum, which they helped create earlier this year. Grasshopper book leaping off local shelves for holidays
      Island resident Jeanne Archambault has just published a children's picture book called "The Leaping Grasshopper," which is colorfully illustrated by Dwight Smith, also of Jamestown. The book follows the high-jumping antics of the grasshopper who leaps vigorously across each page as he visits the various animals that live in his neighborhood.
