Wind energy topic of new town committee
There are several vacancies on the newly created Wind Energy Committee with two-year terms
This committee will review and evaluate the use of wind turbines as an alternative renewable energy source for local power generation.
The committee also will study the potential application of wind energy technology to meet municipal demands exclusively or to broadly serve the residential and commercial power needs on the island. The study will examine direct
and indirect costs and benefits and aesthetic and neighborhood impacts. Following completion of this assessment, the committee will issue a report and recommendations to the Town Council.
With approval of the Town Council, the committee may seek federal and state grants or private funding to support the study and analysis of wind turbines on Jamestown.
Applicants must be registered voters in Jamestown to qualify for appointment. Anyone who wants to serve on this committee should submit an application and letter of background and interest by Dec. 18 to the Town Clerk, 93 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, RI 02835.
