Mark G. Allen, 57
Mark G. Allen, 57, of Seekonk, Mass., died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006. He was the husband of Paula Grady Allen, and the son of Elisabeth C. Allen of Jamestown, and the late Max G. Allen.
Mark was a graduate of Moses Brown School and Lehigh University. Early in his professional career, he was a bank lending officer at Citibank in New York. In 1978, he was named chief operation officer of M.G. Allen & Associates in Warwick. In 1985, he joined Drexel Burnham Lambert, where he earned the designation as a chartered financial analyst. Most recently, he was first vice president at UBS Financial Services in Providence. He was a member and former treasurer of the Conanicut Yacht Club, a member of the Dumplings Association, Cottrell Pier and Beach Association, the University Club, and RISRA.
Mark was a longtime resident of Jamestown. He loved sailing, and was skilled at single-handed events. In his youth, he was National Rooster Champion. He continued to find great pleasure on his boat, sailing the waters of Narragansett Bay. He loved his dogs, a good martini, time spent with friends, and, above all, he cherished his family. No one could tell a funny story better than Mark.
He was the father of Cameron D. Allen, Virginia A. Allen, and Victoria M. Allen, all of Jamestown, and the late Matthew G. Allen. He was the stepfather of Victoria K. Grady and Shannon E. Grady of Seekonk. He is also survived by his sisters Deborah Allen of Newton, Mass., Jane Barrett of Rehoboth, Mass., Lisa LeFort of Stuart, Fla., his brother Michael Allen of Washington, D.C., his former wife, Pamela Tegarden Allen of Jamestown, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at St Margaret's Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., in Rumford. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Margaret's Church.
