Newport gallery night next week
On Thursday, Dec. 14, many of the galleries in Newport will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of Newport Gallery Night. Some of the galleries will feature unique exhibits, special activities, and demonstrations. Conclude the evening with a meal at one of the local restaurants, many of which have special offers for Gallery Night.
The Deblois Gallery, located at 138 Bellevue Ave., is taking a step away from their usual contemporary art showcase to feature local artists and craftsmen in an Invitational Fine Arts and Crafts Show. This exhibit will display a variety of mediums, including jewelry, glass, ceramics, decorative arts, copper fish, dolls, and quilts.
The Cadeaux du Monde's Galerie Escalie, 26 Mary St., will be showcasing Christmas folk art and nativity scenes. They will also feature an informal illustrated talk on crches from around the world as a part of their Newport Gallery Night exhibit.
Spring Bull Gallery, 55 Bellevue Ave., is displaying its 16th "Les Petites Oeuvres" (The Little Picture) Exhibition. The gallery will be displaying miniature masterpieces of local artists in oils, watercolors, pastels, graphics, glass as well as other media. The exhibit will run through Jan. 3, 2007 with the pieces changing daily as new art replaces the sold pieces.
The Montanaro Gallery located at 518 Thames St. will be featuring "Essential Landscapes" by George Vranesh of New York City. Inspired by both American abstractionism and his surrounding nature, the solo exhibit will feature works from the year 1955 through 2006 in acrylics on canvas, watercolors, woodcuts, drawings and silk screens. This show will be on display through Jan. 17, 2007.
Newport Gallery Night is held the second Thursday of each month from February through December.
Gallery Night is sponsored by the Newport Gallery Organization. For additional information on art galleries in Newport visit www. newportgalleries.org.
