Charged after fight

Steven Hackett, 22, of Middletown was charged Aug. 20 with simple assault and disorderly conduct after he allegedly struck a woman at a party after a heated discussion.

Hackett is scheduled to appear Sept. 1 in Newport District Court, police said.

Arrested on warrant

+ Shelly A. Bassett, 41, of 7 Green Lane, was picked up Aug. 21 on a bench warrant from Newport District Court.

Police said Bassett was held overnight and taken to district court on Aug. 22.

+ Joshua Neves, 18, of 47 North Main Rd., was picked up on a warrant Aug. 18 on charges that he intimidated a witness and violated the terms of his bail.

Neves was taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions and is scheduled for an Aug. 29 bail violation hearing, police said.

Larcenies reported

+ A woman from Baldwin Court told police Aug. 20 that a wallet with $75 in it was taken from her car.

+ A resident of Pardon Tucker Place reported Aug. 20 that a 24inch bicycle worth $350 was missing.

+ A Spanker Street resident told police Aug. 19 that his 21inch bicycle was taken. It had a value of $200, police said.

+ A visitor to Ft. Wetherill reported Aug. 17 that a digital camera worth $250 and a wallet containing $25 were taken from the car.

Vandalism reported

+ A town employee working at Mackerel Cove beach reported Aug. 17 that the bathroom facilities were spray-painted.
