Olive E. Guiney, 90

Olive E. Guiney, 90, formerly of East Shore Road, died Aug. 10, 2006 at Roberts Health Centre in North Kingstown. She was the wife of the late David D. Guiney.

Born in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of Philias J. LaPlante and Edith (Thibodeau) LaPlante. She was an administrative assistant for the city of Worcester for many years before retiring in 1983, when she moved to Jamestown.

Mrs. Guiney was a communicant of St. Mark Church in Jamestown, and was active in various Jamestown civic organizations, including volunteering at St. Matthew's Thrift Shop, serving as a dispatcher for Jamestown's elderly transportation

service, and participating in the Friends of the Jamestown Library.

While living in Worcester, she was a writer of feature articles and a food column for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and continued her journalistic endeavors in Jamestown by contributing articles to the Jamestown Press.

She leaves a son, David K. Guiney, of New Westminster, British Columbia, a daughter, Joan G. Engel, of West Hartford, Conn., and two grandchildren, Miriam and Albert Engel.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at St. Mark Church in Jamestown.
