Begin autumn with a tour of Newport's galleries

On Thursday, Oct. 12, many of the galleries in Newport will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of Newport Gallery Night.

Some of the galleries will feature unique exhibits, special activities, and demonstrations. Conclude the evening with a delicious meal at one of the local restaurants, many of which will have special offers for Newport Gallery Night.

The Newport Art Museum, at 76 Bellevue Ave., is featuring an exhibit titled "Vintage Jillian: A Retrospective of Ceramic Sculpture by Jillian Barber," a Jamestown resident. The exhibit offers an opportunity to observe Barber's elaborate and richly-colored life masks, ceramic sculptures, and recently added photog- raphy. Her work, which combines a celebration of nature with medievalism and fairy tales, is collected throughout the country.
