Change the clocks, Change the batteries

The Jamestown Fire Department reminds all residents that smoke detector batteries should be changed each time the clocks are changed for Daylight Savings Time.

"It's a good way to remember it," Fire Chief Jim Bryer said about the connection between batteries and clocks. He noted that batteries may last a year, "but twice a year is even better" to ensure the smoke detectors are always functioning.

According to a report from the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs, "When smoke alarms fail, it is most often because of missing, disconnected or dead batteries."

Clocks will be set back one hour on Sunday morning, Oct. 29, at 2 a.m.
