Group's goal is to let seniors age at home

A local group is researching ways to allow senior citizens to stay at home versus be put in nursing homes as they age.

Spurred by newspaper articles describing organizations elsewhere that are developing strategies to avoid "warehousing seniors," a group from South County, Newport, and Jamestown is looking for ways to establish a "village for aging in place, " with help from a $5,000 grant from the Rhode Island Foundation to produce a feasibility study and business plan.

The group, which includes Brookie Harding from Jamestown, will share their information with the public at a session at the Jamestown library on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m.

The group is looking for thoughts and comments on their research.

Call Harding at 423-1798 for more information.
