Bennett to perform at URI Jamestowner Nancy Bennett will perform her Senior Piano Recital at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. This concert completes the requirements for her bachelor of music degree in piano performance. The program will include Beethoven's Pastorale Sonata, solo works by Bach and 20th-century composer John Adams, and Opus 19 by Gabriel Fauré. Bennett is a student of Dr. Manabu Takasawa, assistant professor and director of piano studies at URI. Dr Takasawa is well known to Jamestown concertgoers, having given two concerts on the Jamestown Community Piano. Bennett also studies the Taubman approach to piano technique with Mary Moran, senior director and teacher of the Golandsky Institute. In preparation for her senior recital,. Bennett performed her senior program last weekend at a concert sponsored by the Jamestown Community Piano Group. Bennett is a graduate of Swarthmore College and received a master of fine arts from New York University's Institute of Film and Television. She returned to her piano studies after a career in New York producing television commercials. For the Fauré, Bennett will be joined by Dawn Chung, who will play the orchestral reduction. A graduate of URI's master's program in music, Chung performs both classical and jazz piano and teaches privately in South County. The recital is free and open to the public. |
