Janet E. "Betty" Wilson, 78

Janet E. "Betty" Wilson, 78, a longtime resident of Jamestown, died Monday, Oct. 30. 2006.

Born in Greenwich, Conn., she was the daughter of the late John and Kate (Wilson) Wilson. Miss Wilson was employed by the U.S. Navy, serving as secretary to the chief of staff of the Naval War College; librarian at the Naval War College in the Classified Library, Cataloging, and Acquisitions Branches. Upon her retirement she received her teaching certification and taught adult education programs. She organized and served as librarian for the library at First Presbyterian Church in Newport, where she was a member. She received her bachelor's degree from Bryant College and her master of library science from the University of Rhode Island.

Miss Wilson is survived by her cousins Kathleen Galloway and June Jackson of Scotland and special friends Evelyn Dye McPhee, Rosemary Page, Evelyn Dye Gill and her husband George, Betty Dye Haymon and her husband Roger, and George W. Dye.

Miss Wilson's funeral and burial will be private.
