Salve lecture on Catholic-Muslim relations

Dr. Sandra Keating, a member of the Vatican Commission for Religious Relations since 2005, will offer a public presentation on "The Bonds that Unite Us: Catholic-Muslim Relations at the Beginning of the 21st Century" on Monday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. at Bazarsky Lecture Hall, O'Hare Academic Center on Salve Regina's campus.

Her talk is free and open to the public.

A professor in the Department of Theology at Providence College, Keating is the only American serving on the Vatican commission. She was appointed to a five-year term by Pope Benedict XVI in September 2005. At the first commission meeting, Keating joined scholars from around the world in Rome to discuss pressing Christian and Islamic issues. Included in the group were professors, a human rights lawyer, and a physicist, who hail from countries in Africa, as well as Lebanon, Spain, and India.

A specialized research team for the Vatican, the commission's goal is to help to enhance relations among Muslims and Christians under the direction of the pope.
