Debris cleanup needed

I am writing in regards to the storm of Saturday, Oct. 28t., the letters to the editor by Dr. Richard Robin (Nov.2) and Mr. Waller (Nov.9). At present, my concerns are very elementary. There has been debris, broken fences, and trash strewn along Beavertail Road at Mackerel Cove since that storm. Were this litter to be on Conanicus and Narragansett Avenues I am sure it would have been removed by now.

Are we waiting until Jan. 1-t he Penguin Plunge, when we have visitors, to clean these shores?

I disagree with Mr. Waller that we can congratulate ourselves that the eelgrass held and therefore do no other conservatory measures to protect Mackerel Cove and the evacuation route as Dr. Robin suggests. This storm was not even a Category 1 hurricane. We are not struggling against our environment as Mr. Waller suggests, but learning to live in it and protect it in a thoughtful, intelligent, forward thinking manner.

Anne Marie Bellino,

Jamestown
