Choristers looking for new voices

The Newport Navy Choristers, under the direction of JoAnn Loewenthal, are currently seeking new members in all voice ranges for the 2007 spring musical season.

The choristers perform concerts throughout the year to benefit local charitable organizations.

Since their founding in 1953, the choristers have raised over $350,000 for worthwhile area groups. Two concerts are planned for the spring season – one in March and one in May to celebrate Armed Forces Day. Membership is open to all

active duty, reserve, and retired military, civilian employees of local military commands, and family members over 16 years of age. There are no auditions for the main chorus, and singers do not have to be able to read music to join. While helpful, previous choral experience is not necessary.

The choristers meet Tuesday evenings at 6:15 p.m. in the Quinn Lecture Room at the Naval War College. The first rehearsal for the spring season will begin on Tuesday evening, Jan. 2. The choristers will be accepting new members until Jan. 16

For further information call Steve Larson, the group chairman, at 847-4256, Navy Chorister Director JoAnn Loewenthal at 849-4823, or visit www.newportnavychoristers. com.
