Clowning around in Westerly
      The Chorus of Westerly has announced that longtime Celebration of Twelfth Night Jesters Randy Judkins and Tom Murphy will offer a Clowning Workshop on Sunday, Jan. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Christ Church Parish Hall, 7 Elm St. in Westerly. The workshop is open to the public, age 12 and over.

Walking in a winter wonderland
      Slocum Grange will be having their next meeting on Friday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Slocum Grange Hall, located on 96 Slocum Rd. in North Kingstown. The program for the evening will be about “Walking in a Winter Wonderland.” All are welcome to attend. Visitors are expected from Exeter Grange.

Story hours at the library
      Starting Jan 9, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, the Jamestown library will offer a two-month-long children’s hour with a different community helper reading a story to children 3 to 8 years old. These sessions will be a wonderful opportunity for children to meet members of the community, ranging from firemen to the post office workers, and hear them read.

      Karin Bentley and Alexander Shupe celebrated their first wedding anniversary on Dec. 17, 2006. The bride is the daughter of David and Jane Bentley of Jamestown. The groom is the son of Ken and Missy Shupe of Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Karin and Alex now reside in Scarborough, Maine.

Buy a bracelet for Payton
      Blue rubber bracelets that say “Payton” are available, for $2 at the Jamestown Police Station to support the family of Payton Watson, who has been diagnosed with leukemia. Payton is a grade-5 student at Hamilton Elementary School in North Kingstown, and she is the daughter of Sgt. Frank Watson of the Jamestown Police Department and Liz (Goode) Watson, longtime residents of Jamestown.

Rec basketball to start
      The recreation department will hold open practices for everyone registered for the Recreational Basketball League on Saturday, Jan. 6. Boys in grades 7 and 8 will practice from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Lawn Avenue School gym. Boys in grades 5 and 6 will practice at the Lawn Avenue School Gym from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Girls in grades 3 to 8 years old will meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Knit this Sunday
      The next Sunday Knitting Circle at Jamestown library will take place on Jan. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. The Sunday knitting sessions are free and open to all levels of expertise. Participants should bring needles and yarn. with them to the children’s area of the library.

Film series begins tonight
      The Friends of the Jamestown Library will kick off the 2007 Foreign Film Series, which begins tonight, Thursday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. at the library with the French film “Bon Voyage.” Rated PG-13, “Bon Voyage” stars Gerard Depardieu and Isabelle Adjani. With a running time of 114 minutes, it will be screened in French with English subtitles.
