Baxter Venable, 76
Baxter Venable, 76, of Lawrenceville, N.J., a longtime summer resident of Jamestown died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Hamilton, N.J.
Born in Lakewood Ohio, he was an acquisitions editor for the D. Van Nostrand Publishing Company in Princeton and then the W.B. Saunders Publishing Company in Philadelphia. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, where he was a deacon and elder.
He was a summer resident of Jamestown for 30 years.
A graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army with the 66th Counter-Intelligence Corps during the Korean War.
Son of the late James VI and Ann Harden Venable; he is survived by his wife, Patricia Lengel Venable; a son and daughter-inlaw, Mark and Kristin Venable of Denver, Colo.; a daughter and sonin law, Amy and Brian Ciuffreda of Lawrenceville, N.J.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joan Venable of New Bern, N.C., Catherine and Richard Cooper of New Bern, N.C.; four grandchildren, Adam and Erica Venable, Nicholas and Katie Ciuffreda; and two nieces, Kate Cooper Metts and Jennifer Cooper.
A memorial service was held Jan. 8 at the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville with the Rev. Jeffrey Vamos pastor officiating. Interment was private.
