Tall Ships 2007 topic of library talk
The Friends of the Jamestown Library will present Vice Admiral Thomas Weschler, co-chairman of Amica Insurance Tall Ships Rhode Island 2007, on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jamestown library.
Vice Admiral Weschler will discuss the upcoming festival in which up to 30 tall ships from around the world are expected to fill Newport Harbor beginning June 27 and concluding with a Parade of Sail to sea on July 1.
This international five-day celebration of tall ships is expected to attract over 250,000 visitors, with special programs promoting goodwill and camaraderie with the visiting countries. Viewings of these one-of-a-kind ships will be available to the public from several locations.
A black-tie Tall Ships Ball hosted by the preservation society at the Breakers mansion is just one of the highlighted events. TSRI 2007 will also coincide with the 50th Anniversary Reunion of the U.S. Navy's International Naval Command College, which will attract many senior-level officers from around the world.
