Music classes for babies coming to Jamestown
Kindermusik Village, one of several programs originated by Kindermusik International, is being brought to Jamestown by the Ready, Set Play with Cindy Studio, newly created by Cindy Olsen of Jamestown, a Kindermusik educator.
Kindermusik Village is an eight-week series of musical learning activities for babies from newborn through 18 months and their parents, which will begin Monday, Jan. 22, at 9:15 a.m. in the community room of St. Matthew's church, 87 Narragansett Ave.
Kindermusik International has won numerous awards for its programs that encourage music and social skills in pre-schoolers and provides learning opportunities with their parents. The Kindermusik approach draws on research in child development.
Olsen said the research shows that "skills learned through music carry over into skills for study, communications, cognition, and abstract reasoning useful in all aspects of life. A child's fundamental learning takes place between birth and 7 years. Every child benefits from the joy that music brings to life."
The local program will provide child-centered classes, as well as music and materials to extend the fun of learning at home. Kindermusik emphasizes that every child is musical. Every parent is the child's most important teacher; and the home is the most important learning environment.
Kindermusik Village activities include creative movement, dance, listening, singing, vocal play, object and instrument exploration, and colorful literature.
"This is a fun and enriching way, a joyfilled way, for parents and their babies to spend time together," Olsen said.
"Each Kindermusik class is a world of discovery and adventure in a setting that is full of energy, imagination, music, and playful delight," she added.
